The purpose of this research was to examine the role of community engagement in supporting democratic governance. The Mopani District Municipality in Limpopo Province was the primary focus. Public involvement is an essential component of democratic governance because it allows citizens to contribute to decision-making processes that affect their lives while also assuring transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in local government. The study examined how local government frameworks promote genuine community involvement, the challenges faced in participatory processes and the efficiency of current mechanisms. The Participatory Democracy theory underpinned the study. The study employed mixed research method consists of both quantitative and qualitative approach. The study's sampling group included municipal officials, ward councillors, ward committees, community development workers, traditional leaders, community members, and civic leaders from Mopani District Municipality. The targeted sample size was 35 and were participants familiar with the topic under investigation. The study used non-probability sampling and purposive sampling. Data was analysed through thematic analysis and Statistical Package of Social Science, version 26. Employing these two analytical methods enabled the researcher to successfully tackle the research goals from both quantitative and qualitative viewpoints. The findings of the study was that majority of respondents believed that community participation improves transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in municipal decision-making. Furthermore the findings indicated that community participation enables the municipality to make more responsive and informed decisions by drawing on local knowledge about community needs, priorities, and growing concerns. It was recommended that community participation should not be viewed as a formal requirement, but rather as a fundamental democratic practice that empowers communities to influence development goals. The researcher strictly adhered to ethical conduct.
