dc.description.abstract The aim of this research is to show that there is an interrelationship between Mathematics and indigenous life. The research strives to find a link between modern day Mathematics and ancient traditional African life. This could be achieved by conducting an ethnographic study of schools within the Rakwadu Circuit of Mopani District, Limpopo Province. This study can be used by future researchers as a reference that demonstrates that various traditional games such as diketo and morabaraba are identical characteristics to classroom Mathematics. The traditional games chosen are diketo, kgati, morabaraba, moruba and tsheretshere. These are popular games amongst the African community and are closely related to Mathematics. By clearly showing that Mathematics is ingrained in the African tradition and that it has always been a part of our culture, I hope to instil a sense of pride and confidence in the African community and learners. This study also focuses on Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and how it can still be applied in a modern world and provides an alternative to how learners are taught at schools. en_US
