Abstract

Resistance to change by primary school principals towards educational reforms lead to ineffective management of the schools, which contributes to poor performance and poor academic results. Principals should know that personnel, and learners, development occurs throughout their learning life. The study investigated causes of resistance, and how resistance impact on educational reforms. A quantitative research method was used to collect data. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data. The findings of this study indicated in bringing possible solutions to the problem brought about by principals' resistance to change on educational reforms. The study was conducted at Tshinane circuit in Vhembe District. The researcher recommends that principals are to be encouraged to engage themselves in the curriculum matters. Principals should be given bursaries to upgrade themselves in a formal qualification in curriculum matters. Department of education should employ well-trained principals in educational matters. Colleges and Universities should be used as the resource centers for the learning of curriculum studies and management.
