This qualitative research study delves into the factors that hinder women's participation in cattle farming practices at Ha-Luvhimbi, a Village located in the Vhembe District of Limpopo Province, South Africa. Guided by the social justice theory and the feminist standpoint theory, the research aimed to explore how gender shapes knowledge, access to resources, farming methods, and the difficulties encountered within the community. The study population comprised the residents of Ha-Luvhimbi village who are involved in cattle farming practices. Purposive sampling procedure, specifically the non-probability sampling method, was used in this study. The sample size was determined by data saturation. As a result, the researcher interviewed eight participants. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews based on the five domains of the Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI), and thematic data analysis was used to uncover significant findings related to gender disparities in cattle access and ownership, traditional gender roles, and the sociocultural norms that influence farming practices.
